Umbrella pines covered the trade districts. The spas had hot, medium, and cold baths, all wonderfully decorated. Pompeii even had plumbing, although they didn't yet know about lead poisoning and used lead pipes. There were still black and white mosaics on the ground in front of the shops so people could decipher what was for sale -- and they sold everything. The local house of prostitution was until recently off limits to women. Frescos over each room told of what was offered.
