Here is the Bridge of Sighs which connects the courthouse on the right with the jails on the left through a double bridge. It is said that prisoners sentenced to death walked the bridge and got their last look at the world through the decorated windows. The Doge's which ruled Venice would sentence lawbreakers to death and boxes were located throughout Venice where citizens could drop notes to finger lawbreakers. In 100% of the cases the wrongdoers were found guilty and lost their heads. Only in 1 case, where a jealous secretary wrongly accused her boss, was the tattler put to death after it was later learned that she lied. We also toured the Doge's Palace, home to one of the largest canvas paintings in the world.
